Psychological Evaluations
Psychological evaluations include:
A clinic interview
Various standardized tests to measure intelligence
Evaluate cognitive, emotional, and or behavioral functioning of the individual.
Psychological evaluation appointments are scheduled one week apart. Appointments can range between 60-120 minutes. A final report will be available two weeks after the last appointment. Results may be faxed to the medical/health professional referral or via an in-person results appointment with the patient and/or legal guardian. A copy of the final report will be provided. The report should be considered Protected Health Information and only shared with the referring agent, referral sources identified in the report or by a trusted professional, and trusted health and academic professionals who are part of your treatment team.
Psychological evaluations can be valuable because they can offer:
+ Investigation and integration of information from multiple informants such as the child, parents, teachers, caregivers, and additional health professional informants;
+ Thorough diagnostic evaluation (cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and social functioning) and diagnosis;
+ Treatment guidance for psychotropic and/or counseling therapy;
+ Diagnosis specific and personalized treatment recommendations;
+ Environmental (home/school) recommendations;
+ External resource referrals;
+ Recommendations for accommodations; support services; and immigration.
Psychological evaluations are commonly recommended for specific reasons such as to:
✓Diagnose conditions such as attention deficit disorder, emotional disturbances; (mood, anxiety disorders) or disruptive behavior disorders;
✓Clarify psychological diagnosis in consideration of socio-cultural factors;
✓Identify giftedness or to test intelligence;
✓Determine the presence of developmental delay, learning disability or processing problems;
✓Monitor treatment progress;
