Ki Askarpour, Psy.D. is a second-generation Iranian American clinician who is committed to providing culturally responsive trauma-informed care. Dr. Askarpour earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), followed by a Master of Science in Psychology and a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Diverse Populations from the APA-accredited program at Mount Saint Mary’s University, Los Angeles.
Currently, Dr. Askarpour is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Conscious Culture Psychology Clinic’s Advanced Clinical Health Psychology Fellowship Program. Prior to joining CCPC, Dr. Askarpour completed their APA-accredited doctoral internship at the US Department of Veterans Affairs - Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center, where they worked in the Women’s Mental Health Program and Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program providing trauma informed and culturally responsive evidence-based individual therapy, group therapy, and psychodiagnostic assessments to Veterans in the greater Los Angeles area. Throughout their training, Dr. Askarpour has worked with individuals and families across diverse communities and settings. Their clinical experience includes providing individual and group therapy to asylum seekers at the Program for Torture Victims, individual and family therapy to Native American children and families at United American Indian Involvement, and neuropsychological evaluations through Consulting Collective and the South Central Los Angeles Regional Center.
Dr. Askarpour’s clinical and research interests include understanding the impact of societal and systemic factors on mental health through an intersectional minority stress framework. Their approach is grounded in Liberation Psychology and informed by an understanding of how culture, identity, systems of oppression, and lived experiences can impact mental health and well-being. Dr. Askarpour's clinical work draws from evidence-based behavioral approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support clients in identifying their goals, reflecting on patterns, and creating meaningful change. They also provide evidence-based trauma therapies, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Written Exposure Therapy (WET).
Dr. Askarpour strives to create a therapeutic space where clients feel seen, respected, and empowered. They are dedicated to providing care that is culturally responsive, trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirmative, and honors clients' unique lived experiences. Dr. Askarpour views therapy as a collaborative process of healing and growth through supporting clients in building greater self-understanding and creating a life that feels meaningful and worth living.
